In a written statement, Al-Azhar condemned the scenes that took place at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games and caused widespread anger in the international community. The statement emphasized that depicting the Messiah (PBUH) in a barbaric manner that insults his honorable person and sublime prophetic status is disrespectful to the religious and moral sensitivities of believers.
The statement included the following statements:
- Attempts to insult the Messiah (Hazrat Jesus) and other prophets are permanently rejected,
- The prophets and messengers are the chosen persons of Allah and insulting them is a shame for Muslims.
- Nearly 2 billion Muslims respect Jesus and other prophets,
- It was stated that a call was made to the unit against insult and perversion tendencies.
The statement warned the world community that normalizing insults against religion and encouraging perversions were dangerous for society, and emphasized the need for unity to counter such tendencies.
