A strong reaction came from the AK Party to CHP member Özgür Özel, who equated the victory sign with Deniz Naki, who made PKK propaganda, and our national football player Merih Demiral, against whom UEFA opened a disciplinary investigation for making the ‘Grey Wolf’ sign.
AK Party Deputy Chairman and Head of Promotion and Media Hamza Dağ opposed the words of CHP member Özgür Özel and said, “When it comes to the values that make us who we are, either take an upright stance or let the goose burn and don’t get into trouble and become a laughing stock.”
Hamza Dag’s statement is as follows:
- “CHP Chairman, just as he could not defend Merih Demiral’s goal celebration without any ifs or buts, the ‘But’ he presented to the society is an example of terror propaganda. To equate to a terror sympathizer who described the terrorists who attacked the police station as ‘the heroes of Dersim’ with a son of the country who proudly represents the star and crescent flag and carries it in the headlines is to be alienated from your own homeland. When it comes to the values that make us who we are, at least take a firm stance or let the goose burn, don’t get caught up in trying to turn it around and get into trouble.”
