Famous actor and presenter Kenan Işık, who suffered a brain hemorrhage as a result of a fall he suffered ten years ago on March 21, 2014, passed away yesterday at the age of 76. The news of Işık’s death, who had been in a coma for a long time, deeply saddened his loved ones.

Işık’s body was brought to Ankara after the ceremony held in Istanbul. The funeral ceremony held after the midday prayer at Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Mosque was attended by Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, State Theaters General Manager Tamer Karadağlı, Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş and many citizens.

Before the ceremony, Kenan Işık’s wife Beril Işık and his sons Ahmet and Mehmet Işık accepted condolences. His grandson Doruk Işık (9) carried his grandfather’s photograph at the funeral. Tamer Karadağlı, one of the important names in the theater world, said, “Kenan Işık is a very important loss. He was a valuable artist both on stage and in front of the screen. Our pain is great, our loss is great.”

Following the funeral prayer led by the President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş, Işık’s body was taken to Karşıyaka Cemetery wrapped in the Turkish flag. Kenan Işık’s wife Beril Işık touched her husband’s coffin one last time and said “Goodbye.” While those who attended the funeral remembered Kenan Işık with love and respect, it seems that this great loss will be felt for a long time by the Turkish theater world.
