Bread Crisis in the Gaza Strip
Speaking to AA correspondent, the owner of Acur Bakeries Kamil AcurHe drew attention to the deepening danger of “hunger” in the north of the Gaza Strip. Stating that 5 of his 6 bakeries are at risk of closure due to the serious crisis in bread production, Acur used the following statements:
“If Israel continues to block the entry of raw materials and fuel, our only working bakery may close within a week. Fuel has not been delivered to the bakeries in Gaza city and the northern regions for the last 10 days. In addition, about a month ago, Israel sent flour, sugar and flour to the region. “It also restricted the entry of basic food ingredients such as yeast.”
Acur emphasized that the fuel and raw material crisis caused the closure of the bakeries and stated that if the crisis continues, they may have to reduce the working days in the only bakery that remains open. Acur stated that their latest bakery is one of the largest bakeries in Gaza and emphasized that many people in Gaza city and the northern regions meet their bread needs from this bakery.
