Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, representing Turkey, attended the international meeting held in Madrid, the capital of Spain. The meeting was also attended by the foreign ministers of Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Slovenia, Norway and Spain, Qatar Minister of State Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell , Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abu Ghait, OIC Secretary General Hüseyin Ibrahim Taha and high-level representatives from Bahrain, Nigeria and Ireland also attended.

Before the meeting, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Manuel Albares appeared before the press members along with other participants and answered journalists’ questions. In response to an AA correspondent’s question about the EU not taking any steps despite advocating the two-state solution, Albares said: “I cannot speak on behalf of the EU. Spain imposes sanctions on bilateral relations. In addition, there is a letter we sent to the EU together with Ireland, demanding sanctions against Israel. We continue to discuss within the EU to take the necessary measures . The violence perpetrated by Israel is unacceptable.”he replied.

Albares, regarding Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was murdered by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank, “We absolutely reject this incident and demand that all measures be taken against the killing of civilians.”he said Meeting of the Contact Group in Madrid, “We need to focus on Gaza”Albares underlined, “We must do whatever is necessary to prevent violence in Gaza. We must encourage peace between Israel and Palestine.”he said

The path ahead is very clear and single. The only way to a just and lasting peace is a two-state solution. Albares stated that the geography of the Contact Group is not limited and that European and Arab countries came together in Madrid for a two-state solution. “The war in Gaza must stop now. No apology is valid. Millions of innocent civilians must be prevented from suffering further. Albares, “We hope that one day Israel will sit at the table for peace and recognize the two-state solution.”he said
