Automotive Industry Association (OSD) shared important data for the first 7 months of 2024 with the public. In this period, total production decreased by 5 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 823 thousand 636 units.
Decline in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Production
Compared to the first 7 months of last year, automobile production decreased by 2 percent and reached 542 thousand 177 units. With tractor production, total production increased to 853 thousand 704 units. However, in the first seven months of the year, production in the commercial vehicle group decreased by 12 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In addition, production decreased by 18 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle group and 11 percent in the light commercial vehicle group. In this process, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was determined as 73 percent. Capacity utilization rates by vehicle group were as follows:
- Light Vehicles: 73%
- Truck Group: 77%
- Bus-Midibus Group: 54%
- Tractor: 69%
Decrease in Tractor Exports
In the first seven months of the year, automotive exports decreased by 1 percent in terms of units compared to the same period last year, reaching 581 thousand 865 units. During this period, automobile exports increased by 1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 5 percent. Tractor exports decreased by 20 percent compared to the same period in 2023 and were recorded as 9 thousand 532 units. Total automotive exports increased by 1 percent compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 20.7 billion dollars. Exports in euro followed a parallel course and amounted to 18.9 billion euros. During this period, while main industry exports followed a parallel course in dollar terms, supply industry exports also increased by 3 percent.
Decline in Domestic Vehicle Share
In the January-July period of 2024, the total market remained at similar levels to the same period of the previous year, reaching 698 thousand 368 units. During this period, there was a 3 percent increase in the automobile market and total automobile sales reached 536 thousand 351 units. In the first half of 2024, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was recorded as 30 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was recorded as 31 percent.
