Relations between Egypt and Germany: Steinmeier’s Visit
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier became the first German president to visit Egypt after 25 years, Egypt’s official news agency MENA reported. This historic visit is considered an important step in strengthening relations between the two countries.
During the talks in Cairo, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Steinmeier held a joint press conference. At this meeting, the two leaders had the opportunity to discuss many important issues in the region. Sisi pointed out that Germany has refused to make an agreement with Cairo on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis for more than a decade.
At the press conference, Sisi particularly emphasized Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip. Sisi stated that it is critical for European countries to pressure Israel to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. He also stated that he does not accept Israel’s use of hunger as a weapon against Palestinians.
President Sisi emphasized that Egypt, in cooperation with the USA and Qatar, is striving for an agreement that will end the suffering in Gaza and ensure stability in the region. In this context, Egypt’s role is becoming increasingly important in ensuring peace and security in the region.
