Amoniel Üneşi’s Surprising Need and Aftermath
Although Amoniel Üneşi stated that he did not want to receive an aid parcel, he accepted this parcel upon insistence. Then, Üneşi, who signed a document stating that he had received the parcel, learned that he was debited 182 thousand euros with the notification he received on July 17. Learning about the situation, his older brother Kenan Üneşi (74) immediately came to Midyat and filed a lawsuit to stop the enforcement proceedings through Lawyer Beşir Romioğlu. At the same time, he filed a criminal complaint against the people who made him sign promissory notes under the pretext of ‘aid parcel’.

Amoniel Üneşi said the following about the enforcement proceedings: “They brought a parcel. When I asked what this parcel was, he said, ‘There is a major, he is giving aid and distributing it to everyone. There were 100 of them, we gave away 99 of them, and this remained. They said, ‘You can have this.’ I said, ‘I don’t need it,’ but when he said, ‘You can give it to a poor person,’ I had to take the parcel. Then they said, ‘Sign it, we will show it to the major.’ I signed the paper without reading it, I trusted him. I didn’t know what I was signing. When the execution paper arrived, I learned that I was charged debt. Now they want 182 thousand euros. I don’t have field sales, shopping or any kind of business. What will I do with this money? I don’t even need money. They received me, I was defrauded. I have neither money nor clothes right now. “Look how I am.”
‘I want these people to be punished’
Amoniel Üneşi’s older brother, Kenan Üneşi, explained his brother’s situation as follows: “My brother is alone and lonely, with no experience. He usually takes care of several animals at home. It has no commercial or social life. He has never read a newspaper or watched television in his life, and he always lives alone. Why did they do such a thing, I don’t know either. They are now asking for 182 thousand euros from my brother. My brother doesn’t have that kind of money. He gets by with my help. “I want the state to protect my brother and punish these people.”

Lawyer Beşir Romioğlu stated that his client is visually impaired and is known in the society as someone with mental retardation. “Some people who contacted our client obtained promissory notes through fraudulent acts. Our client signed the paper because of the trust he had in them. He doesn’t realize what he signed. These people initiated enforcement proceedings against our client. There is an enforcement proceeding worth 182 thousand euros. As a precautionary measure, we filed a lawsuit at Midyat Civil Court of First Instance to stop the execution and to determine that he is not in debt. We filed a criminal complaint on charges of ‘forgery of official documents’ and ‘fraud’. Our client has absolutely no commercial transactions in the SSI records or as known in the society. He does not have the ability to do commercial work. “The aim here is to destroy the property that will remain from our client’s family.”
