Kertmekaracaören village in Sivas’ Ulaş district hosts an interesting belief that a mountain located in the location known as ‘Kamışlı Lake’ was an active volcano centuries ago. According to the villagers, it is possible to encounter lava cinders at the foot of this mountain and in every corner of the village. Although there is no clear information about when these slags occurred, the village people state that they frequently encounter these slags during agricultural activities and that this situation negatively affects their agriculture from time to time.

Erdal Hatip, one of the villagers, states that there is a spontaneously formed lake at the foot of this mountain and that the region should be brought into tourism. “Wherever we dig, lava slags come out.”

Emphasizing that there is lava slag everywhere in the village, Erdal Hatip said, “The location of this place is called Kamışlı Lake. There is a natural lake here. The inner parts are completely swamp. There is a huge mountain behind the lake. It “It is said that this mountain was an active volcano centuries ago.” “There are lava slags everywhere. We don’t know when it was formed, but this is what we heard from our ancestors. Wherever we dig, lava slags come out. Stating that the natural lake at the foot of the mountain is a center of attraction for hunters, Hatip said, “Hunters come here to hunt ducks, and when they enter the lake, they often cannot get out.
