Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Exercise
The comprehensive drill, organized under the leadership of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Affairs Department, was held in Değirmendere Çınarlık Square. This important event was attended by the Turkish Underwater Sports Federation, AFAD, Coast Guard Command, Kocaeli Marine Police, Kocaeli Fire Department, Ankara Municipality Fire Department Search and Rescue Unit, Gölcük Değirmendere Underwater Community Sports Club, Gölcük-Turkey Radio Amateurs Association, UMKE and Kocaeli Oksimed Hyperbaric. Oxygen Therapy Center participated.
4 Different Recovery Scenarios
The exercise was planned to evaluate the ability of search and rescue teams to work in coordination with local and judicial authorities in maritime accidents and incidents that may occur after possible natural disasters in the Gulf of Izmit, to determine needs and to determine training requirements. Four different rescue scenarios were successfully implemented during the exercise.
Exercise Scenarios
- First Scenario:The rescue of a person who fell into the sea while a motorboat carrying passengers was approaching the pier on the Izmit-Değirmendere line was created. This person, who went into shock and fainted due to the cold water, was found by rescue divers and the spot where he was found, was marked and official teams were informed.
- Second Scenario:The rescue operation performed by lifeguards and the application of the necessary first aid in case a person who went swimming in Değirmendere Çınarlık Square asks for help was simulated.
- Third Scenario:It was depicted that one of a group of four divers doing sportive diving got stuck under the wreckage due to a low-intensity earthquake that occurred while he was entering the wreckage, and was rescued to the beach by rescue divers. After first aid on the beach, the person was handed over to professional medical teams.
- Fourth Scenario:After the earthquake on the Değirmendere coastline, the citizens who survived in an air gap in a building at a depth of 5 meters were successfully taken out of the water and delivered to professional medical teams by providing first aid on land.
