It is claimed that the German Government will not provide new aid to Ukraine
It was claimed that the German government would not provide new military aid to Ukraine other than what was previously agreed upon, within the framework of austerity measures. According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper, the coalition government consisting of the Social Democratic Party, the Greens and the Free Democratic Party, which reached an agreement on the 2025 budget, plans to provide only previously approved military aid to Ukraine within the framework of the current budget planning
In the newspaper’s news titled “No more money for Ukraine”, he claimed that Germany was obliged to restrict military aid to Ukraine. It was stated that in the current budget planning, “there is no new financing” for Ukraine, and the reason for this was the savings measures of the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Finance.
While it was emphasized in the news that previously approved materials would continue to be delivered to Ukraine, it was shared that additional requests from the Ministry of Defense would not be approved upon the instructions of Prime Minister Olaf Scholz. In addition, the Minister of Finance and the leader of the Free Democratic Party, Christian Lindner, was quoted as saying in a letter sent to the Ministry of Defense on August 5, “New measures can only be taken if financing is provided in this year’s” and next years’ budgets.”
It is also known that German Finance Minister Christian Lindner wants the aid to Ukraine to be covered not from the German budget, but with the profits from frozen Russian assets. These marks the beginning of a new era in Germany’s aid to Ukraine.
