According to the news in the official Palestinian agency WAFA, Israeli authorities decided to demolish the house belonging to a Palestinian family living in the town of Beit Hanina, north of Jerusalem, on the grounds that it was “unlicensed”. This situation reveals another example of the difficulties faced by Palestinians in the region.
The owner of the house that was decided to be demolished is Palestinian Raid al-RahmiIn his post on his social media account, he stated that the Israeli authorities told them that their house must be demolished today on the grounds that it is “unlicensed”, otherwise they will demand 50 thousand shekels (approximately 13 thousand 500 dollars) as demolition costs tomorrow. Emphasizing that they did not have the opportunity to pay the demolition cost, Rahmi stated that they had to demolish their houses themselves.
Rahmi noted that Israel demolished his house twice before for similar reasons, in 2007 and 2010, and made great efforts to obtain a license, but did not receive any positive response from the Israeli authorities in this process. This situation stands out as a problem that applies to many Palestinians.
Rahmi, reacting to the situation they experienced, “Alhamdulillah… This is the situation for me and all Palestinians. We don’t know where to go anymore. Even if they destroy our house, we will not leave our land.”he said These words symbolize the Palestinians’ commitment to their land and their resistance to the difficulties they face.
