Statements on US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s Visit to Haiti
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who made important statements to journalists during his official visit to the Caribbean country of Haiti, evaluated the latest developments regarding the ceasefire in Gaza. Blinken stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected it, but unlike the US administration, they were close to a ceasefire in Gaza.
“90 Percent Agreement Achieved”
Blinken said, “From what I see, there is 90 percent agreement on the ceasefire, but there are some critical issues that need to be understood here. These issues need to be detailed on how certain aspects of the agreement will be implemented.” he said
Philadelphi Corridor and Controversial Issues
Emphasizing that controversial issues for the ceasefire, such as the Philadelphi Corridor between the Gaza Strip and Egypt and the exchange of captives and detainees, were discussed, Blinken said, “It is really the responsibility of both parties to get a positive response on the remaining issues.” he said
Hopes on Armistice
Blinken stated that they hope to share their thoughts on resolving the remaining problems related to the ceasefire “in the coming days.” He stated that every day that the parties do not reach a ceasefire agreement causes “something else” to come in the way and that this “risks derailing” the agreement in question.
