Extremely Hot Weather Conditions in Adana

Adana'da Aşırı Sıcak Hava Koşulları

In Adana, air temperatures rose to 40 degrees, while humidity reached 85%. This high humidity caused the perceived temperature to reach 50 degrees. In Adana, where the weather was oppressive even in the morning hours, many citizens flocked to the plateaus to cool off. Those who could not go to the plateaus tried to cool off in irrigation channels, despite the danger.

Young people living in Bahçelievler Neighborhood of the Central Yüreğir district found an unusual way to cool off in an irrigation canal. Using a refrigerator whose engine and lids had been removed as a boat, the young people entered the canal, staying away from danger and having a fun experience.

“This is our million-dollar yacht”

The young people who drifted in the canal while lying inside the refrigerator expressed that they had a pleasant time by saying, “We don’t have a boat, but this is our million-dollar yacht.”

“We rest when we get tired”

Mehmet Karataş, 17, who was swimming in the irrigation canal, said that the heat of Adana did not make them afraid of getting into the water. “We have to get into the water to cool off. Those who do not know how to swim here drown. There is no problem for those who know how to swim. We know enough to swim to save ourselves. When we get tired, we rest and then get back into the water,” he said.
