New Assessments on Cause of Death of Israeli Prisoners in Khan Younis
According to the Yediot Ahronot newspaper, preliminary assessments of the bodies of six Israeli prisoners found in the city of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip indicate that the prisoners may have suffocated from gas as a result of a fire that broke out in the tunnel where they were being held. The report states that these prisoners lost their lives in an attack that took place approximately six months ago. It also states that examinations conducted in the region support this assessment and that the forensic medicine institution is continuing its work.
It was reported that the Israeli army hit a target near the tunnel where the prisoners were located and that smoke from the fire that followed this attack filled the tunnel, causing the prisoners to suffocate. It was reported that not only the bodies of Israeli prisoners but also the bodies of Hamas members holding Kalashnikov-type rifles were found in the tunnel. It was also emphasized that no signs of injury were found on these bodies.
The Israeli army officially announced today that the bodies of six Israeli prisoners held in Khan Younis have been brought to Israel. The names of the prisoners whose bodies have been brought are as follows:
