The so-called Regional Governor of the Zaporizhia region annexed by Russia Yevgeny Balitskiy, shared important information about the latest situation at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. Balitskiy stated that a fire broke out in the cooling system of the plant as a result of artillery fire by the Ukrainian army.

Balitskiy said in a statement: “There is no explosion or other danger in the 6 units in the power plant in cold stop condition.”He also emphasized that radiation levels in the plant and the surrounding city were at normal levels and reported that efforts to extinguish the fire were continuing.

The Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant in southeastern Ukraine is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. The strategic facility was seized by Russian forces in March 2022. The area around the plant, which is currently under Russian military control, has been subject to frequent artillery attacks. Ukraine and Russia blame each other for these attacks.
