Living in the rural Kaleboynu Neighborhood of Göksun district Duygu Akcal , who followed the painful events in Palestine from social media and news sources, decided to draw children and women who were attacked in Gaza on the walls of her house in order not to remain silent against this cruelty. With these drawings, which she made without any art training, she aims to give a message of support to Palestine under Israeli attacks.

Akçal’s paintings include Turkish and Palestinian flags, people kneeling next to walls in the hospital waiting for their turn to be treated, teams trying to rescue the dead and injured under the rubble, a mother and her child waiting in the hospital, and symbols of resistance . Akçal, who said that while watching the news about Palestine, he told his father that he wanted to draw the suffering there on the wall of their house, continued his words as follows:

  • “While everyone reacted differently on TV, I resorted to this method. When I saw the faithful stance of the children and their mothers and fathers, I wanted to draw it on the wall of our house.”
  • “I also drew the Palestinian and Turkish flags on the wall. I wanted to show that we are together and that we are strong. If we are together, we are very strong. I think all Islamic countries should unite and say stop to this massacre “as soon as possible.”

Akçal, who stated that he transferred the pictures he drew on paper while grazing sheep to the wall, emphasized that he loved painting. Akçal, who said that he continued drawing even while grazing sheep in the pasture, stated that the drawings he made at home were a means for him to express his feelings and thoughts.

Akçal, who stated that he also painted the occupied Al-Aqsa Mosque on the wall of his house, expressed his feelings as follows:

  • “Children my age are dying there for no reason, left without mothers or fathers. It’s a very difficult situation.”
  • “Children should not sleep without their mothers, and mothers should not sleep far from their children. Children’s place should be in their mother’s arms, not in the ground.”

Duygu Akçal stated that she lives in Kaleboynu village of Göksun and that it is 73 kilometers away from Kahramanmaraş. She stated that she wanted to participate in the protests and marches in the city center but she could not do so due to the distance. Akçal said, “Even though I could not be there, I wanted to show my reaction to Israel by drawing such drawings in my own home.”

Akçal, who stated that he transferred the small drawings he made while grazing his sheep when he came home, to the wall, said, “I did not receive any training when I made these drawings, I started doing them on my own without going to “Any courses. I am very happy to have such a talent and I am proud of myself for crowning it with such paintings.”

Finally, he gave a hopeful message by saying, “I believe that one day, victory will come to those who believe, victory will come to this ummah.”
