University Buildings in Gaza Destroyed After Bombardment
Civil Defense Unit Spokesperson Mahmoud Basal said in a written statement that as a result of Israel’s bombardments of Gaza, the buildings on the university campus were completely destroyed. Basal noted that the Israeli army, which entered the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, demolished the buildings with explosives and warplanes carried out intense bombardment from the air.
In addition, eyewitnesses who spoke to AA reported that loud explosions were heard from the area where the university is located and that the thick smoke rising from the area created a worrying image. This situation further increased the fear and uncertainty experienced by civilians.
In a statement made by the government’s Media Office in Gaza on August 1, 2023, it was reported that 117 schools and universities were destroyed and 107 researchers and lecturers lost their lives as a result of the Israeli attacks that have been ongoing since October 7, 2023. This data reveals how great a threat the education system in the region is under.
