Striking Statements from İmamoğlu
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu used striking expressions in his speech in front of the buses to be sent to Ukraine. During the hours when the funeral of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was martyred as a result of the attacks of Israel, which he described as a terror state, was being held, he referred to Hamas and Haniyeh as terrorists without mentioning the name of Israel . İmamoğlu, “We are not just saying no to war, we are also saying no to terrorist acts.”He described the actions carried out by Israel as ‘war’.
AKP Reacts
İmamoğlu’s words were harshly criticized by AK Party Deputy Chairman Hamza Dağ. Dağ, in his post on the social media platform X, said, “Is it up to you to still describe a genocide that took place before the eyes of all humanity as a war, to seek excuses for thieves and justifications for murderers?” He used the following expressions. This situation emerged as a criticism questioning how İmamoğlu presents himself in the eyes of the West in the international arena.
On Conscience and Responsibility
Dağ continued his post by saying:
- “Although it is difficult to predict how much Mr. İmamoğlu’s effort to appear cute will be appreciated in the eyes of the West, it has no value in the eyes of conscientious people.”
- “The consciences of those who still dare to imply that there is a ‘but’ in Hamas’ heroic struggle against the thief, the occupier, the murderer and the Zionist regime should be questioned.”
