According to data provided by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI), the number of flights at Istanbul Airport showed a notable increase in the first half of 2023. A total of 253,115 arrival and departure flights were carried out, including 57,783 domestic flights and 195,332 international flights. In the same period, a total of 117,773 flights were carried out at Sabiha Gökçen Airport, including 54,983 domestic flights and 62,790 international flights. A total of 13,270 flights were organized from Atatürk Airport, 7,945 of which were domestic flights and 5,325 were international flights.

In the first six months of the year, the total number of flights from all airports in Istanbul was determined as 120,711 domestic flights and 263,447 international flights. While a total of 363,961 flights were carried out from airports in the megacity in the same period of 2023, there was an increase of approximately 6%, or 20,197 flights, in the first half of this year. It was observed that approximately 47% of the 819,104 flights organized at airports across Turkey were centered in Istanbul.

Nearly 40 Million Passengers in the First Half of the Year

In the first half of the year, Istanbul Airport hosted 8 million 154 thousand 410 passengers on domestic flights and 29 million 938 thousand 219 passengers on international flights. In Sabiha Gökçen Airport, 9 million 463 thousand 44 of the passengers flew to domestic destinations and 10 million 359 thousand 842 to international destinations during this period. A total of 19 million 822 thousand 886 passengers traveled from this airport.

In the first six months of the year, 17 million 617 thousand 454 passengers traveled on domestic lines and 40 million 298 thousand 61 passengers traveled on international lines, for a total of 57 million 915 thousand 515 passengers. In the same period last year, this number was recorded as 52 million 288 thousand 632 passengers on domestic and international lines. This year, there was an increase of 11% with an increase of 5 million 626 thousand 883 passengers.

It is estimated that 55% of the 104 million 725 thousand 264 passengers hosted in total at airports in Turkey traveled via domestic and international flights in Istanbul.
