The monsoon rains that hit the country’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province caused flash floods. Emergency Services Spokesperson Bilal Faizi said that the bodies of three women, seven children and one man from a family caught in the flood disaster while sleeping in the Kohat district of Pakhtunkhwa were found. It was also reported that three people were martyred in the floodwaters in the Hangu and Bajur districts of the same province.
Authorities have warned that rains could cause flash floods in parts of the country next week. Monsoon rains from June to September each year wreak havoc in Pakistan. Last year, 1,739 people died in the floods and the government said the cost of the floods exceeded $30 billion.
