Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu examined the ongoing Çeşmeli-Erdemli-Silifke-Taşucu Highway works in Mersin on site. Minister Uraloğlu, who evaluated the latest status of the highway project, stated that 42 kilometers of the 53-kilometer road is the main trunk and 11 kilometers is the connection road, and said, “With this project, we will solve the section up to Kızkalesi, where traffic is the most congested.”
2.5 Hour Road Time Will Be Reduced to 18 Minutes
Minister Uraloğlu said that the 45-kilometer journey, which currently takes 2.5 hours, will be reduced to 18 minutes when this project is completed. Stating that the road will serve between 35,000 and 70,000 vehicles per day depending on traffic density, the Minister stated that the project includes a total of 7 tunnels and 5 viaducts. He also emphasized that when the project is completed, carbon emissions will decrease by 17,080 tons and a total of 770 million liras will be saved.
Environmentally Conscious Work
Minister Uraloğlu stated that there are valuable lands and greenhouses within the scope of the project and that they are carrying out meticulous work and are acting with environmental sensitivity. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the work continues with 204 machines and approximately 1,330 personnel in the field and that their goal is to complete the project within 3 years.
