GPS Issue Between Israel and Hezbollah
The ongoing armed conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and Hezbollah’s use of advanced missiles and armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UCAVs) have led Israel to jam the GPS system in Lebanon, disrupting air and land transportation and negatively affecting daily life and civil aviation security.
Lebanon complained to the UN on July 16 about Israeli interference with its GPS system. The complaint was filed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Israeli interference affecting GPS systems in Lebanon.
Israel’s interventions in Lebanon are causing problems, especially by disrupting GPS systems in various parts of Lebanon. This situation is also causing tension in the international arena.
International Sanctions and the GPS Problem
According to experts, Israel’s interference with Lebanon’s GPS system is considered a crime that requires international sanctions. The attack on the GPS system has caused a huge debate in the country and is turning the situation into an official problem.
It is emphasized that GPS is used in many areas, including transportation, air and sea transportation, and civilian use. Therefore, it is emphasized that interference with GPS poses a threat to the country’s civil and military security.
Confusion and Solutions
According to Lebanese experts, GPS jamming is caused by the compression of GPS waves by suppressing similar waves or stronger frequencies. It is stated that Israel is affecting GPS signals through advanced systems supported by artificial intelligence.
Lebanon can switch to alternative systems such as the Russian Glonass system to counter Israeli GPS interference, or it can take the issue to international platforms through the UN. It is also recommended that Lebanon develop solutions to prevent interference with the GPS system by using its own capabilities.
