Vice President Kamala Harris, who has become the likely candidate for the Democratic Party after US President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, has made a rapid entrance into the race. Speaking at her first campaign rally, Harris vowed to win the elections to be held on November 5. Harping on former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Harris said, “The American people will choose between a criminal and a prosecutor.”

Reminding that Wisconsin was one of the critical states in the presidential election, Harris stated that she believed they would defeat Trump first in Wisconsin and then in other states.

Harris took aim at her Republican opponent Trump in her speech, saying the November presidential election will be a choice between a former prosecutor and a convicted felon. Likening Trump to the fraudsters she has investigated, Harris said, “I have investigated all kinds of perpetrators. Perverts who harass women. Fraudsters who rip off their clients. So when I say I know Trump’s type, believe me.”

Harris’ campaign received $100 million in donations in the 36 hours following Biden’s withdrawal, and a new national poll by Reuters and Isos has put Harris ahead of Trump, who has 42 percent support, with 44 percent.

Trump, for his part, has challenged Harris. The former president told reporters in a call that he believes it is “important” to challenge Harris and that party candidates have an “obligation” to debate each other. There have also been claims that Harris would break up Biden’s team if she is elected.
