The Development Road Project, which will connect Turkey to the Faw Port in the Persian Gulf with a 1,200-kilometer railway and highway, will affect a wide region from Europe to the Gulf countries and will produce common benefits. The project is also called the New Silk Road.
Project Progress
The project was implemented with the ‘Joint Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding on the Development Path’ signed between Turkey, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar during President Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Iraq. The Quadripartite Ministerial Council, formed between the ministers of the four countries, manages the project process.
Meeting to be held in Istanbul
The first meeting of the Quadripartite Council of Ministers will be held in Istanbul, hosted by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdülkadir Uraloğlu. Project details and cooperation issues will be discussed at the meeting, and Turkey will play an active role in every stage of the project.
Infrastructure of the Project
For the Development Road Project, railway lines are planned between Mardin-Ovaköy, Gaziantep-Çobanbey and Gaziantep-Şanlıurfa. In addition, 6,880 kilometers of railway routes have been prepared in different regions.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdülkadir Uraloğlu, in his meeting with the Secretary General of the Intergovernmental Organization for International Railway Transport (OTIF) Wolfgang Küpper, emphasized Turkey’s pioneering mission in the railway sector and stated that they will continue their cooperation for the Development Road Project .
Zangezur Corridor Agreement between Azerbaijan and Iran
An agreement has been reached between Azerbaijan and Iran for the Zangezur Corridor. This corridor aims to create a new trade route from London to Beijing. The 61-kilometer line, which will pass through Iran, will increase the trade volume in the region and make significant contributions to the world economy.
