“The Pentagon is hosting the 2024 US-Iraq Joint Security Cooperation Dialogue (JSCD). Meetings will continue today and tomorrow,” Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gene. Pat Ryder told reporters.
Ryder said the JSCD builds on the work of the High Military Commission (HMC), which emerged from the April meeting between US President Joe Biden and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Washington. Stating that the parties will discuss when and how the mission of the global coalition against the terrorist organization ISIS in Iraq will end and how to transition to a permanent bilateral security partnership in an orderly manner, Ryder said, “Holding this dialogue meeting this week reflects “both the determination of the two countries to strengthen bilateral security relations based on the work of the HMC over the last few months, and the upcoming 10th anniversary of the global coalition’s military mission in Iraq.”
