As the human tragedy in Gaza continues, the massacres carried out by Israel occupy an important place on the international community’s agenda. The United Nations Security Council, which approved the ceasefire bill in June, convened once again after a long hiatus to address the Gaza issue.

The session was chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who currently holds the rotating position of the Security Council. Lavrov reiterated his call for a ceasefire, saying, “What is happening in Gaza has become unacceptable, and attacks have turned into collective punishment of civilians.”

Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, also made important statements at the session of the United Nations General Assembly. Yıldız said, “We call on all Security Council members to recognize the State of Palestine in order to prove their commitment to the two-state solution.”

Ahmet Yıldız, who called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, warned: “Without a ceasefire, a disaster of unprecedented dimensions is inevitable.”

Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said that Netanyahu does not care about the Palestinians or the Israeli hostages. Mansour stressed that Israel is violating all international rules.

Speaking on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, Rattray, Chief of the Cabinet of the Executive Department, criticized on behalf of the international community, saying, “The situation in Gaza is a humanitarian stain on all of us.” US Ambassador to the UN Greenfield said that both sides had similar views on the framework of the ceasefire and were hopeful about the talks.
