South Sudanese Health Minister Yolanda Awel Deng announced that a new vaccine will be administered in the country as part of the fight against malaria. Minister Deng stated in a statement to the press that the vaccine called “R21/Matrix-M”, developed against the malaria epidemic, will be administered to 250 thousand children under the age of 5.
Deng emphasized that malaria is a serious concern in the country and said, “We are determined to reduce the effects of malaria and solve children’s health problems.” The use of the “R21/Matrix-M” vaccine, which was previously implemented in Ivory Coast, is considered an important step in South Sudan.
