According to the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, Egyptian sources believe that the ongoing prisoner swap and ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel will not be concluded until after the US elections. According to an unnamed source, Egyptian intelligence submitted a report to the presidency on the ceasefire process in Gaza.

The report predicted scenarios in which negotiations between Israel and Hamas could last until the US presidential elections in November and attacks on Gaza could continue until the end of the year. According to the source, Netanyahu expects a different approach from the US administration to the attacks on Gaza with the possibility of former US President Donald Trump returning to power.

US President Joe Biden made a statement on the new ceasefire proposal presented by Israel on May 31. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that they would continue the attacks in Gaza until the specified goals were achieved. In his speech to the House Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on June 3, Netanyahu stated that there were some “gaps” between the plan proposed by Israel and the proposal presented by Biden.
