Dries Mertens shared his views on the transfer of Michy Batshuayi, with whom he played together in the Belgian National Team, and Beşiktaş’s new transfer Ciro Immobile, with Sabah Newspaper.
Mertens’ Comment on Batshuayi and Galatasaray
Mertens evaluated Batshuayi’s transfer to Galatasaray with the following words; “Did you ever talk to Batshuayi during the transfer process? What do you think about him coming from Fenerbahçe to Galatasaray?” Mertens answered the question, “No! I just saw the news. I sent him a message and asked, ‘Are you coming?’ “I am very happy that he is coming. He did well last season and scored a lot of goals. He felt that Galatasaray wanted him and he took advantage of the opportunity that came his way.”
Mertens praised Batshuayi by saying, “Coming to Galatasaray is a decision he made, perhaps a decision I could not make. Batshuayi is a very good person, he did not want to hurt anyone. He loves playing football. He is someone who has always been thirsty to score goals. That is why he can score so many goals.”
Ciro Immobile and Besiktas Transfer
Mertens commented on Immobile’s transfer to Besiktas as follows; “Beşiktaş made an effort for him to come. He felt this love and decided to come. It was like that for me, I think it was the same for Icardi. Sometimes you feel like the club wants you and that’s the best decision for you “
His Views About Barış Alper Yılmaz
Sharing his views on Barış Alper Yılmaz, Mertens said, “I hope he stays for both me and Galatasaray. I think he is 23-24 years old, he needs to stay for one more season to show himself fully. He will take another step in the team and find his own position. When you look at him, he has played as a left winger, left defender, right winger, right defender. He can play anywhere.”
Mertens said he enjoys dealing with young players, adding: “I like talking to young players and helping them. Now they have options and I am here to help them with those options.”
