Fifteen nominees for the prestigious Giller Prize have announced their withdrawal from the competition, saying the Giller Foundation would be complicit in genocide if it continues to receive funding from sponsors who support Israel’s occupation of Palestine.

The authors called for pressure on Scotiabank, one of the Giller Foundation’s sponsors, to divest from Israeli arms company Elbit Systems and for other sponsors to divest from their activities against Palestinians. They also noted that Amazon-owned Audible has partnered with the pro-Israel tech company Palantir.
Authors Urge Other Authors to Support
Fifteen authors called on their colleagues to support them by withdrawing their nominations. The authors made clear their opposition to sponsors affiliated with Israel and questioned the Giller Foundation’s stance on the issue.
