The United States (US) supports mediation efforts to end the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. “We are cautiously optimistic that things are moving in a good direction,” US State Department spokesman John Kirby told CNN when asked whether a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel was imminent.
Kirby said there were still gaps between the two sides, adding, “We believe these gaps can be narrowed. Brett McGurk, the White House National Security Council Middle East and North Africa Coordinator, and William Burns, the Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), are currently continuing mediation efforts.”
The mediation efforts led by the United States, Qatar and Egypt are working to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas that would guarantee a prisoner exchange and a ceasefire for both sides. In this process, the United States continues to provide support to maintain positive dialogue between the parties and end the conflict.
