Innovative Technology from KBU Faculty of Engineering: Eye Movement Control

A technology developed under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Yılmaz, a faculty member at the Department of Medical Engineering at KBU Faculty of Engineering, allows patients to control their computers with their eye movements. This technology also allows individuals to manage their computers and peripheral equipment with their eye movements.

The developed application can operate without the need for additional hardware to detect eye movements. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Yılmaz states that what distinguishes this technology from others is that it uses artificial intelligence and image processing techniques simultaneously. The application scans the user’s pupils and transfers the data it obtains to the computer, thus transforming eye movements into a control mechanism.

Thanks to the developments, it is possible for patients and individuals to control their computers more easily and effectively while using them. This technology also allows environmental equipment to be controlled with eye movements, so users can control the lights, air conditioners, televisions, etc. in their environment with their eyes.
