Last year, 18,497 children were subjected to sexual abuse in our country. 75.6% of the children included in these statistics were girls and 24.4% were boys.

“Every Day 54 Children and Young People Are Sexually Abused”

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser shared the results of a report with the public, stating that an average of 54 children and young people are sexually abused every day. Faeser said the following about the truth behind this statistic: “Unfortunately, most children are able to remain silent because they know their abusers well. In this case, it is our fundamental duty as a state and society to protect children and take the necessary steps “

The German Interior Minister emphasized that “abusers should not feel safe anywhere” and touched on the necessity of storing IP addresses of internet service providers in order to identify perpetrators and protect against sexual violence. He stated that work on this issue will continue without slowing down.

‘Efforts to Protect Children and Youth Continue’

BKA Vice President Martina Link added: “Combating sexual violence against children is a high priority for the Federal Criminal Police Office. Child victims are often deeply traumatized and can take many years to deal with. Given the increasing number of reports and cases, technical capabilities need to be improved and cooperation strengthened.”

The German parliament took action against reduced sentences for possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material at its plenary session in May.
