After President Emmanuel Macron defended his decision for snap legislative elections, the outcome has left France in a state of uncertainty. The election for the 577 seats in the National Assembly did not result in a clear majority, raising questions about the next prime minister and government.

Three main blocs have emerged from the elections, none of them large enough to govern independently. No bloc has reached the threshold of 289 seats for an absolute majority. The New Popular Front, a left-wing alliance, secured around 180 seats, followed by President Macron’s centrist group with approximately 160 seats, and the far-right National Rally party with about 140 seats.

The unique outcome of the election, not producing a clear majority, has put the formation of a stable government into question. Typically, a single party aligned with the president would secure an absolute majority to form the government, but this time the scenario is different.
