Voting in the second round of the 14th term presidential elections in Iran has been extended until 20:00 local time. People had the opportunity to go to the polls today and make their choices. Ballot boxes were set up in more than 59 thousand polling stations for 61 million 452 thousand 321 voters in the country.

The voting process, which started in the early hours of the morning and was scheduled to end at 18:00, was extended until 20:00 by the decision of the Iranian Supreme Electoral Council.

Second Round of Elections

In the second round of the elections, former Secretary General of the Supreme National Security Council Said Celili from the Conservative front and Turkish-origin Tabriz MP Mesut Pezeshkiyan from the Reformist front are competing.

Candidates Failed to Pass the Threshold in the June 28 Elections

Following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19, the Guardian Council meeting decided that the 14th term presidential elections would be held on June 28. It was announced that none of the candidates could pass the 50 percent threshold and that Pezeshkian, who received 10 million 415 thousand 191 votes, and Celili, who received 9 million 473 thousand 298 votes, advanced to the second round.
