In Narlı Neighborhood of Erdek, 7 homeowners rented construction equipment for 16 thousand liras for coastal cleaning, causing the destruction of protected sea meadows. Following the incident, Balıkesir Governorship launched an investigation and the teams from the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change completed their work on the issue.
As a result of the investigations conducted by the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, TE, the operator of the construction equipment, was awarded 774 thousand liras for destroying sea meadows, in accordance with Article 20, paragraph “k” of the Environmental Law, which aims to protect biodiversity. In addition, a criminal complaint was filed with the prosecutor’s office against the homeowners who caused the destruction of the sea meadows.
