Yacı, in his speech where he emphasized the “Statue of Justice” which has become the symbol of the legal system, said, “The eyes of a lawyer are bound by when making a decision are not closed when injustice occurs, but when it occurs. Today, I must at least express with my words that I am against lawlessness and injustice. A genocide is taking place in Gaza.”
Drawing attention to the events that have been going on for about 8 months, Yacı continued his speech as follows: “Hundreds of thousands of people have been massacred since October 7th, before the eyes of the entire world. Children, women, civilians, journalists and many people are still being killed with the most advanced weapons in the world. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians under the threat of genocide are not just a number. The 6-year-old girl Hind Recep is not a number lost among hundreds of thousands; it does not change that she was shot at exactly 355 times. I reject the violation of the decisions of the International Court of Justice, the disregard of international law, all the values and norms we recognize in the name of humanity. I dedicated this award I received today to my friends in Gaza whose universities were destroyed and whose right to graduate was taken away from them.”
