The discovery of a coin from the period of Byzantine Emperor Anastasius I during the surface survey in the İnkaya District triggered excavations in the region initiated by the Diyarbakır Museum Directorate in 2021. These studies are being carried out meticulously by a team of 15 experts and 40 people.
During excavations last year, a cemetery containing the graves of 54 children between the ages of 0-6 was discovered. As a result of the excavations that resumed on June 28 of this year, more graves belonging to 6 children were discovered. The bones found in the graves were carefully preserved in the excavation house belonging to the Museum Directorate for examination.
Excavations are planned to continue until the end of the year, provided weather conditions are favorable.
