The TBMM National Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission was convened under the chairmanship of AK Party Ordu Deputy Mahmut Özer. Education unions also took part in the meeting.
Objection from CHP
CHP Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP Suat Özçağdaş objected to the bill on procedural grounds. Özçağdaş stated that the bill should also be discussed in the Justice Commission and the Planning and Budget Commission, but these commissions decided not to discuss the bill.
Statement by the Commission Chairman
Commission Chairman Mahmut Özer said, “We sent our letters to the Justice Commission and the Planning and Budget Commission. Neither of the relevant commissions requested additional time. Therefore, the process has been completed and our proposal will be considered at this stage.”
CHP Group Deputy Chairman’s Assessment
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir stated that they will make concrete contributions to the draft law and emphasized that the process should not be rushed. The order reminded that a similar law had previously been annulled by the Constitutional Court and stated that the committees should work effectively.
Bill Discussions
Following the speech of AK Party Sinop Deputy Nazım Maviş, who was the first signatory to the bill, discussions on the proposal continued.
