Developments following a saddening incident in the Melikgazi district of Kayseri have worried the public. It was alleged that a foreign national sexually harassed a child of the same nationality in the Danişmentgazi Neighborhood. Following this incident, a large group gathered in the area and attempted to lynch the suspect.
In order to bring the incident under control, the suspect was rescued and taken to the police station. However, the incidents escalated and vehicles, workplaces and residences belonging to foreign nationals were set on fire in the Danişmentgazi, Ottoman and Selçuklu neighborhoods. Security forces took extensive measures in response to this situation.
The measures taken by the police teams to ensure security throughout the city have been increasing. While the entrances and exits to the neighborhoods have been taken under control, a broadcast ban has been imposed by the Kayseri 2nd Criminal Court of Peace in order to protect the public health and morale of the incidents.
