Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel, who made investigations after the fire disaster that occurred in the Arvalya area and Pamucak region within the borders of Selçuk, made important statements about the situation.
President Sengel stated that the fire disasters that occurred started to threaten all life at the beginning of the summer months and said, “The disasters that occurred all around our country caused us to have a bitter experience in a city like Selçuk, which is important for nature, agriculture and history. We must now change our perspective on natural disasters.”
Emphasizing that increasing temperatures due to the climate crisis and errors caused by the human factor are causing fire disasters, President Sengel made an important warning and said, “If we do not take preventive measures, a scorching summer that will reach historic levels awaits us. We must create an effective strategy against disasters with the participation of all stakeholders.”
Stating that the people of Selçuk and the Selçuk Municipality will take concrete measures against disaster risks with the experience they gained from the Resilient Cities Conference, Mayor Sengel said, “Instead of wishful thinking, we should take measures to eliminate risks. These lands are our common future, so we should strengthen our disaster management strategy.”
“We must work together to prevent similar disasters from happening again in this heavenly land,” said President Sengel, calling on all of Turkey and emphasizing that a strategy against disasters that encompasses every segment of society must be created.
