Russian Missile Attack in Ukraine Claims Lives of Civilians
A tragic Russian missile attack on a small town in southeastern Ukraine has resulted in a devastating loss of life, with at least seven civilians, including three children, confirmed dead. The horrifying incident occurred as part of two days of intense Russian assaults, leaving the country’s authorities grappling with the aftermath.
The chief doctor of Zaporizhzhia Regional Children’s Hospital, Yuriy Borzenko, revealed that in addition to the fatalities, numerous individuals, including a pregnant woman and five 14-year-old girls, are currently undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the attack on the town of Vilniansk on Saturday.
Dr. Borzenko recounted a heartbreaking moment when a group of teenage girls, enjoying an afternoon walk, fell victim to the projectile explosions that ravaged the town center, setting ablaze shops, cars, and residences. One girl suffered a severe head injury from shrapnel, leaving her in a critical condition, teetering “still in between life and death,” while her distraught parents are also struggling with the devastating situation.
As the onslaught of attacks continues, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has renewed his call for the relaxation of restrictions on the use of long-range American missiles, specifically the ATACMS, empowering Ukraine to target Russian warplanes at air bases before they embark on bombing missions. Zelensky emphasized the crucial role of long-range strikes and advanced air defense systems in combating the relentless Russian aggression.
The strike on Vilniansk forms part of a series of assaults that have unfolded across Ukraine, claiming the lives of at least 24 civilians since Friday evening, according to local officials and emergency responders, who have also reported numerous injuries among the populace.
