4th Traditional Rahvan Horse Races Held in Gaziantep
The 4th Traditional Rahvan Horse Races, organized in Aktoprak town of Gaziantep, in cooperation with the Turkish Traditional Sports Federation and Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, were held with great enthusiasm. Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Halil Uğur also participated and added color to the event.
Speaking at the opening of the races, Uğur emphasized the importance of the pacing horse culture and said, “Our races that we organize to keep the pacing horse culture, which is the heritage of our ancestors, alive and to contribute to the promotion of our region, will continue. These events are of great importance in terms of transferring our cultural heritage to the younger generations and contributing to the socio-economic structure of our region.”
Horse owners and jockeys from neighboring provinces are registered with the federation committee before participating in the competitions and training on the dirt track. Spectators from the region and other provinces also showed great interest in the races.
The fierce competition of the lofty horses gave the audience exciting moments. The races, dominated by colorful images, gave the participants an unforgettable day. It was stated that as Gaziantep, we will continue with determination to keep the ambling horse races, which have historical and cultural importance, alive.
