Şemsi Bayraktar, the Chairman of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey (TZOB), stated that positive discrimination should be made in the agricultural sector. Bayraktar also emphasized that the 30 percent increase in electricity prices should be withdrawn.
According to Bayraktar’s statements, electricity use in agricultural production is increasing. Especially the development of greenhouse cultivation and animal husbandry and the increase in irrigation activities increase electricity consumption. Concerned that the increase in electricity prices will negatively affect the agricultural sector, Bayraktar stated that this situation will leave farmers in a difficult situation.
Bayraktar stated that farmers’ electricity costs have increased due to the effect of extreme heat and the sustainability of agricultural production may be at risk. Therefore, he emphasized that agriculture should be supported and the 30 percent increase in electricity prices should be withdrawn.
