17 August Marmara Earthquake Commemoration
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan commemorated those who lost their lives in the Marmara Earthquake of August 17, 1999, and made the following statements in his post on social media: “I wish God’s mercy to our brothers and sisters who lost their lives, and I once again express my condolences to our citizens who lost their loved ones on the anniversary of this great pain. We have never forgotten the fact that Turkey is a country under “earthquake threat.”
Urban Transformation and Housing Projects
Erdoğan gave information about urban transformation projects, “We have ensured the construction of 3.3 million houses all over our country. We have provided safe homes for nearly 20 million of our citizens with the projects we have implemented. After the February 6 earthquakes, we started the construction of 300 thousand houses in the region. To date, we have delivered 76 thousand houses to our brothers and sisters who were affected by the earthquake. Hopefully, by the end of the year, 200 houses will be built. “We plan to deliver a thousand houses to their rightful owners.” .”
Continuing his statements, Erdoğan said: “We are working hard with all our resources to make our earthquake zone stronger and more magnificent than before.”he said He also stated that citizens living in risky buildings are encouraged to renew their buildings by constantly developing new projects.
Hastily Looking Forward Goals
Erdoğan continued his words as follows:
- “We will continue our work with determination until we make all our cities more prepared for all kinds of disasters.”
