The Deposit Return System, implemented within the scope of the Zero Waste project, aims to contribute to the recycling of waste with an environmentally friendly approach. This system will be applied to glass, plastic and metal packaged beverages and is considered an important step in increasing environmental awareness among citizens and encouraging recycling.
Deposit Payment and Recycling Process
A deposit of 25 kuruş will be paid for each glass, plastic or metal packaged beverage purchased at sales points such as buffets, grocery stores and markets. Deposit payments will be made through the e-wallet infrastructure of Türkiye Emlak Katılım Bankası and the accumulated amounts will be reflected in the citizens’ e-wallet accounts.
Targeted Start Date and Scope
Work on the implementation of the Deposit Management System (DYS) is carried out by the Turkish Environment Agency and is aimed to start on January 1, 2025. The system, which will be implemented within the scope of disposable beverage packages between 100 ml and 3 Liters in the first phase, plans to create a take-back system at 5 thousand points in all provinces and districts by 2025.
- Deposit return machines will primarily be located in municipalities, public gardens and universities.
- The system will spread in a wide range of areas such as chain markets, shopping malls, hotels and restaurants.
Thanks to this project, the recycling of waste will increase and a significant contribution will be made to reducing environmental pollution.
