Gathering in front of the historical town hall in Edirne, Trakya University students protested the 37 percent increase in urban public transportation (ETUS) fees. Students gathered in front of Edirne Municipality and demanded “ETUS increase should be withdrawn”.

In the statement made on behalf of the group, Trakya University student Azra Demirarslan reminding Mayor Filiz Gencan Akın’s 20 percent discount promise to students before the March 31 local elections. However, he stated that instead of the promise of a discount, a 37 percent increase was made, and said, “We think that this increase will constantly increase and that students want to get used to it. We will never agree to this situation. “

Demirarslan stated that the increase was contradictory while emphasizing free education and transportation, and demanded that the increase be withdrawn. He also drew attention to the signature campaign launched to withdraw public transportation increases.

It was reminding that following the 37 percent increase in ETUS fees with the decision taken at the June meeting of the Edirne Municipal Council, the student boarding fee was increased from 11 lira 90 kuruş to 16 lira 30 kuruş, and the full boarding fee was increased. from 16 lira 80 kuruş to 23 lira.
