DEVA Party Deputy Chairman and Mersin Deputy Mehmet Emin Ekmen made important statements at the press conference he held in the Turkish Grand National Assembly regarding the fire disaster that occurred in Diyarbakır and Mardin.
What Happened After the Fire Disaster
Stating that at least 14 people lost their lives as a result of the fire that broke out in Diyarbakır-Çınar and Mardin-Mazıdağ districts right after Eid al-Adha, Ekmen emphasized that the injured are still in intensive care. He also pointed out that nearly a thousand animals perished in the fire.
Cause of Fire and Solution Suggestions
Ekmen stated that the investigations into the source of the fire showed that it was caused by the power line. He also stated that DEDAŞ’s infrastructure problems have been ongoing for a long time and that the irrigation costs experienced by farmers are one of the important problems of the region.

He also emphasized that compensation should be paid to the families of those who lost their lives and that the people of the region should receive electricity service in line with their human right to live.
DEDAŞ’s Applications and Power Outages
Stating that DEDAŞ confiscated farmers’ receivables and victimized the people of the region, Ekmen said that the power outages reduced the quality of life of the citizens. He stated that power outages pose serious problems, especially for patients on respirators and dialysis patients.
Call from Ekmen to Minister Bayraktar
Calling on the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Ekmen stated that urgent steps should be taken to solve the problems of the region. He stated that rapid action should be taken to eliminate infrastructure deficiencies in the region and prevent the suffering of the local people.
