TÜED Statement: Real Purchasing Power of Retirement Holiday Bonus Decreased
In the statement made by the Turkish Pensioners Association (TÜED), it was stated that the retiree holiday bonus has suffered a significant loss of real purchasing power in the last 6 years. In the statement, it was emphasized that the value of the holiday bonus against gold decreased by up to 80 percent.
In his written statement, TÜED Press Spokesperson Mehmet Emin Tangören reminds that the holiday bonus started to be paid as one thousand liras twice a year in 2018. Tangören stated that 5.20 grams of gold could be purchased with the bonus given at that time. However, he stated that only 1.26 grams of gold could be purchased with the holiday bonus paid this year.
“The real purchasing power of the Eid bonus has melted by 80 percent against gold. If today only 4 kilos of meat or 3 kilos of baklava can be purchased with the Eid bonus, which could only buy one sacrificial animal in the past, this means “There is a big problem,” said Tangören, adding that retired holiday bonuses have largely eroded against inflation and that real. He stated that he had lost his purchasing power.
Stating that if the bonuses had maintained their purchasing power, each retiree could have received a bonus of 12 thousand 340 TL this holiday, Tangören pointed out that the retiree holiday bonuses have suffered a serious loss in value compared to previous.
